WHAT'S YOUR DISORDER?

Purpose: To explore the process of how genetic disorders are inherited & how they develop. You & your partner will focus on a certain genetic disorder & research how that condition shapes an individual. You will also be teaching your peers about the disease.

 

Procedure:

1.) You will randomly choose a genetic disorder

2.) You will locate the following:

          -What is the disease? (5)

          -What are the symptoms? (10)

-What type of genetic disorder is it? (10)

(sex-linked, autosomal recessive, chromosomal, etc)

            -What is the treatment for the condition/symptoms? (5)

          -What is the prevention of the disease? (if any) (5)

          -What is the screening for the condition? (5)

          -Something not asked above (something interesting, etc.) (10)

3.) You will need to find VISUALS!! (20) (karyotype, individuals with disorder, etc)

 

4.) You & your partner will give a 3-5 minute CREATIVE presentation

**THIS IS AN ORAL PRESENTATION…YOU WILL BE GRADED ON HOW WELL YOU KNOW YOUR TOPIC AND HOW “INTERESTING” YOU ARE (30)

 

5.) Each student will have a chart to fill out on the conditions presented in class. You will be required to know this information for the next test, so listen carefully. (40)

 

6.) Also, you will be graded on your participation & how well you work with your partner. Points will be taken away for lack of participation & not working well with others.

 

7.) USE AT LEAST 4 SOURCES...CROSS REFERENCE SOURCES!!!! :)
